Meet Stephen. This man too was affected by Covid on many levels and, as with many things in our life, meeting him was an act of GOD!
It was July August 7th when I pulled up to the office on a Sunday Morning at about 9:30 AM. As I got out of my car there was a man sitting at the table we have outside eating. He looked at me and said, "I only have two bites left and I will go". I looked at him and said, "Take your time and finish your breakfast". I had recognized him as a man I have seen exiting the woods in the mornings with his bike and a backpack. Obviously homeless. So as many of you know over the past 31 months, I have increasingly been drawn to people just like Steven, considering my own story. We are indeed all only "One Bad Day Away".
After talking with him for about 3 1/3 hours I felt comfortable asking him what his "deal" is. He looked at me and said, "I was a bartender when COVID hit and lost my job. It was not long after I lost my home and my dog died shortly after that". So, he has been living on the streets since.
Now as the conversation went on, I said, "Man you can get a job anyplace right now, what is stopping you", he said "Yes I can but I am really a stone carver" - I asked him why he was not making things to sell? He said, "Someone stole his tools as he slept one night"! Well, it only took a moment, and something told me to fix that situation.
I told Stephen to go to harbor freight and make a shopping list of what he needed. I will not go into the details of what was said after that except to say, GOD kicked in for sure. On August 9th I went with shopping list in hand and picked up the tools.
I can say it this man truly IS a STONE CARVER. He has been commissioned by several people to make pieces and here you will see some of his work. He is gifted, he is kind, he is truly a blessing to me, as I have learned so much from having him in my life.
Below you can see some examples of what he is doing and if you are interested in purchasing something from Steven, please let me know by using the form on this page. Steven's hope is to be back in a home very soon and at the rate he is going it will not take long.
I will be posting more items as well as video. Watching him take a stone which he finds all over the city and know what it is going to be is amazing. FYI - He literally moves these things using his bike. This man is NOT homeless BTW, he is just like you and I for one exception, he had a really bad day, which we are all susceptible to.
This is the rock that Steven had moved from Beechmont Avenue to our offices on his bike. It was slated to be an eagle for a friend of mine - It is sol
